The Division of
Pediatric Surgery at the Children’s
Hospital of New York (the children’s hospital of Cornell
and Columbia Universities) carries a tradition of leadership
and innovation that dates back nearly half a century. We are
proud of our experience as educators at one of the original
training programs for pediatric surgeons in the United States,
as pioneers conducting research in many aspects of pediatric
surgery, and most importantly, as clinicians who provide high
quality, compassionate, and family-centered care for infants,
children, and adolescents.
Every member of
our staff is a member of the faculty of Columbia
University, College of Physicians and Surgeons and Cornell
University’s Weill Cornell
College of Medicine. The faculty is locally, nationally,
and internationally known for a wide range of expertise including
the program for extra-corporeal life support (ECMO))
for care of infants and children with life threatening cardio-respiratory
failure, minimal
access surgery of the chest and abdomen, childhood surgical
oncology care, pre and postnatal care of congenital
birth defects, pediatric
trauma, and vascular malformations.
Beyond our reputation
for patient care, education, and research, we take particular
pride in combining pediatric surgical expertise with compassion.
Uniquely designed to ease the anxieties of children, parents,
and other family members, our family
centered care offers guest accommodations within the Hospital,
parental access to the operating and recovery rooms, support
groups---even visits from the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit.
At Children’s Hospital of New
York, we strive to make every child and family’s visit as
easy and comfortable as possible.
